Hanson Brick employees, NHL alumni face off to send children to Camp
Exhibition Hockey Game Proceeds Benefit Children’s Stay at Camp Maple Leaf

largest brick maker – hope to raise $10,000 to send 15 children to
Camp Maple Leaf when they play hockey against National Hockey League
(NHL) Alumni on Saturday at Mississauga Iceland Rink 1, 705 Matheson
Blvd. E.
“Camp Maple Leaf is a special place and we’re pleased to play a role in helping youth experience the fun of summer camp,” said Nancy Roche, marketing manager for Hanson Brick’s northern region. “Plus, Mississauga area residents will get to enjoy an evening of hockey with a chance to see some past NHL greats take on our own hockey all-stars.”
Saturday’s 5 p.m. game, featuring such hockey stars as Danny Gare, Bill Derlago, and Wilf Paiement, will be the third annual Hanson Brick All-stars versus NHL Alumni charity exhibition game in which Hanson operations and commercial employees raise money for Camp Maple Leaf. The exhibition hockey games have helped send 15 children to the one-week summer camp. The public can purchase tickets for $10 a piece at the ice rink the night of the event.
Founded by the Canadian Council of War Veteran’s Associations in 1955, Camp Maple Leaf is a living memorial to Canadian soldiers killed in the line of duty. Banyan Community Services operates the camp, located northeast of Peterborough, Ontario, on Pigeon Lake, offering adventure-based experiences – swimming, canoeing, art, crafts, friend-making – to economically disadvantaged children between the ages of eight and 13 with varying backgrounds.
“Partners such as Hanson Brick assure that we had the funding to provide nearly 800 children last year with a life-changing, outdoor camp experience,” said Doug Kay, fundraising coordinator for Camp Maple Leaf. “Our programs promote safety and support, challenge and adventure, skill development and self-confidence, and have helped shape the lives of thousands of needy children.”
It costs $700 to send a child to camp for one week, Kay added.
