Hanson launches Queen City Series

CHARLOTTE, NC, September 2, 2008

  • Six new cut-and-roll-back texture bricks draw inspiration from Charlotte, N.C.'s historic neighborhoods

Hanson Brick, North America's largest brick manufacturer, has announced the launch of the Queen City Series, a group of six new bricks with unique cut-and-roll-back texture designed to give new brick homes a historic appearance.

The new bricks' texture is created by rolling back a thin slice of clay that is normally discarded from the face of the brick during production. The effect creates a random, tree bark-like appearance that gives the bricks depth and random shadow lines.

"The Queen City Series represents a new texture for Hanson, one that we believe will contribute to the creation of one-of-a-kind residential projects that feel like they have stood for decades," said Brian Jones, Charlotte market manager with Hanson Brick. "Additionally, slurries and sand coatings form a subtle color palette on each of the six bricks that enables them to achieve a completely different look through the use of different mortar colors."

The Queen City Series takes its name from historic areas in Charlotte, nicknamed the Queen City in honor of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg, who had become queen consort of King George III the year before the city was founded in 1775.

The Queen City Series includes six bricks with cut-and-roll-back texture:

  • Selwyn - A red body brick accented by pink slurry and white sand with flashed accents and tumbling.
  • Barringer - A red body brick with flashed accents that has been sand blasted and tumbled.
  • Marlwood - An orange-brown brick with flashed accent and tumbling.
  • Landsdowne - A brown brick with tan slurry and flashed accents.
  • Yorkmont - A brown tumbled brick with black accents and blasted with tan sand.
  • Stonehaven - A dark brown brick with cream accents and tumbling.

The Queen City Series is available in Queen Modular and Engineer Modular sizes.
